A New Morning

How's the second half of your year starting, Reader?

I hope it's been full of pleasant surprises and growth!

For me, it's been one month since leaving corporate and starting new ventures with coaching and freelance work.

It has been a very humbling experience to witness how attached I was to the steady pay that came every two weeks.

The discomfort has triggered old patterns of emotional avoidance. In the past, I would indulge in mind-altering substances, like alcohol, to ease the discomfort.

Recently, I have noticed I love ice cream a little too much and think it's "easier" to scroll on my phone than to sit and face the discomfort.

The discomfort I catch myself avoiding is the fear of failure. Sure corporate was a false sense of security, yet my mind was still programmed to see it as security, safety, and sustaining.

The paradox is that by avoiding failure, I would unconsciously do things that made me feel like a failure.

What you put your focus on, you will attract.

How crazy that we can attract what WE DON'T WANT when we continuously think about not wanting it?!

How do we shift this?

Well, we first recognize our behaviors, WITHOUT JUDGEMENT. To hold judgment against yourself or others entangles you more with whatever you are judging.

Instead, when we see it as data of where we are for now...then, we can look at any situation more objectively and not so emotionally.

Second, take note of how the behavior is supporting you or destroying you (hint: you can have examples for both).

The truth is that if you are continuously engaging in a behavior or thought pattern, then there's a belief that you are benefiting something from it, even if your rational mind doesn't see it that way.

Yet, many of us have difficulty accepting this... I mean, who wants to admit that they are gaining something from a behavior that is destroying them?

But trust me, Reader, this alone will begin to create shifts within you.

Once you discover the "benefit", identify what need you are trying to meet. Is it connection, certainty, or perhaps safety? Once you identify the need, navigate other ways you can meet it more sustainably.

And do them!

You may fail, fall out of habit, or neglect these new ways of being, but with each day you get the opportunity to choose differently.

I have chosen more wrong than right lately, but the way to turn it around is just a decision away.

If you are tired of feeling stuck in the same patterns and hate being led by your feelings of overwhelm, I invite you to explore what 1:1 coaching with me could look like for you.

Hey Reader! Are you excited by this title? Cause I know I am!! If you have a relationship with overwhelm, you typically fall into two categories. You either constantly feel on the edge of burnout, with a few breaks in between, or you constantly feel stuck, with little to no progress on the things you say you want to start doing. The key word here is "constantly" or "continuously", which means that these feelings of burnout or stagnancy are as regular as brushing your teeth. If you are in...

Reader, Perhaps you are in a place where you realize no matter how much you add to your skills, titles, bank, closet, etc. You are still experiencing a void. You are having a hard time connecting with your loved ones because you cannot even connect to yourself. You look around at your connections, both professionally and personally, and see that there is an emptiness that you experience with them. You take a look at your career or job and realize that there is a level of comfort it gives you...

Dare to Dream

Happy Day Reader!! Have you ever thought of why dreams can both mean a life desire or an experience you have in your non-wake state? My spiritual teacher, Dr. Lovy L. Elias, had a school on dreams that I got the privilege to attend virtually. I came to learn that most of our dreams are God speaking. At a macro level- you know that dream that you had out of nowhere when you were younger? Well the purpose God created you for is reflected in it! It may look different through time, for example a...
